Read MoreThe name isn't just a phrase — it's the entire mission. Denise and Calvin share the story behind the name and what it means for every youth in their care.
Read MoreWhen a child enters residential care, families often carry a mix of relief, worry, and questions. That's normal — and at Get Home Soon, we want you to know exactly what those first weeks look like so nothing feels like a mystery.
The early days are about settling in, not pressure. Your child will meet the staff, learn the rhythms of the home — meals, school, chores, downtime — and start to understand that this is a safe, predictable place. We don't expect them to adjust overnight, and neither should you.
You remain part of your child's life. We keep families informed and involved from day one, because in most cases the goal is simple: getting your child home, stronger than before. Expect regular communication from our team about how things are going — the wins and the work.
Every child's path looks a little different, but the destination is the same. If you're a family with a child entering care and want to talk it through, call us. We've walked this road with many families, and we're glad to walk it with yours.
If you're a caseworker or agency partner considering Get Home Soon for a placement, here's how to make the process as smooth and fast as possible — especially when time matters.
For urgent placements, call us directly at (217) 503-6269. A quick conversation tells you two things immediately: whether we currently have availability, and whether our home is the right fit for the youth you're placing. We'd rather have that conversation early than slow you down with paperwork first.
A structured, licensed home with consistent staffing, individualized service plans reviewed with your agency, and honest communication throughout the placement. If a placement isn't the right fit, we'll tell you directly and help you think through alternatives — because the youth's outcome matters more than filling a bed.
Email works too: gethomesoon@gethomesoon.org. Either way, you'll get a real answer from a real person, usually within 24 hours.
People ask about our name all the time. It sounds like a wish you'd write in a card — and honestly, that's exactly what it is.
Get Home Soon isn't just what we're called. It's the entire mission, stated plainly. Every routine we build, every plan we write, every conversation we have with a young person points toward one destination: home. Not just a return to an address, but a return to family — stronger, steadier, and more prepared than when they left.
Some programs measure success by how long youth stay. We measure it by how well they leave. A young person's time with us is a chapter, not the whole story — and our job is to make sure the next chapter starts on solid ground.
Our founders didn't come from institutions — they came from family, community, and years of showing up for young people. When they moved to North Carolina and saw children who needed a safe, structured place to reset, the name almost wrote itself.
So when you see our name, read it the way we mean it — as a promise we work toward every single day.
