Our Story
Get Home Soon was founded by people who believe every child deserves a home that holds them.
Denise Banks-Wilson and her husband left St. Louis with a clear purpose. Both had spent years serving their communities — in family, in faith, in work — and when their children were grown, they asked themselves what was next. The answer was Gastonia, and it was Get Home Soon.
They saw children moving through a system that moved too fast and felt too impersonal. They knew what it meant to have a family that holds you — and they decided to build a home that does the same for youth who need it most.
The name says everything. Get Home Soon is the goal — not just a name. Every resident, every plan, every conversation is pointed toward that moment when a child goes back to their family, ready for what comes next.
"We didn't come from institutions. We came from family — and that's exactly what we built."
— Denise & Calvin Wilson, Co-FoundersConsistent routines, around-the-clock supervision, and a staff-secure setting built for youth who need more support than a standard group home can offer.
The founders didn't come from institutions — they came from family. That shows in how the homes are run, staffed, and felt by the people who live in them.
Every placement begins with a plan and ends with a goal. We work closely with placing agencies and families to track progress and prepare for what comes next.
